How to build the HD2 Tacpad

This manual covers sourcing the parts, fitting the CYD into a Helldivers tacpad shell, and final assembly. (Work in progress — sections below are placeholders to be filled in.)

Difficulty / time: TODO: note rough build time, skill level (shell trimming? gluing? battery wiring?), and any safety warnings.

Parts you'll need

Swap the links below for your preferred listings. The CYD and shell links are pre-filled from the project; adjust as needed.

PartQtyWhereNotes
CYD — ESP32 LVGL display (2.8" or 3.5") 1 buy ↗ 2.8" 2USB fits the shell nicely; 3.5" also supported.
Helldivers tacpad shell 1 buy ↗ Galactic Armory tacpad — modified to suit.
micro-SD card 1 buy ↗ FAT32, 32 GB or smaller. Holds sound clips + icons.
USB power / battery 1 buy ↗ USB-C cable, or an internal Li-ion + charger board.

Flash & deploy

With the hardware assembled, flash the firmware and load the SD card from the install page — it does both in the browser over USB. Then pair a Bluetooth speaker for audio.

Troubleshooting

TODO: common gotchas — wrong screen build (blank/garbled, re-flash the matching one), touch misaligned, no audio (Bluetooth pairing), no SD assets (FAT32 / files at root).
